Viction Governance Structure: Empowering Community-Led Decision-Making
Building a Transparent, Decentralized, and Inclusive Ecosystem
The Viction Governance Framework is designed to ensure a transparent, decentralized, and inclusive approach to decision-making, fostering the growth and sustainability of the Viction ecosystem. This document outlines the key phases and processes through which proposals are created, refined, voted on, and executed, enabling the community to drive meaningful improvements to Viction’s Layer-1 network and its associated projects.
Key Governance Phases
Phase 1. Request for Comments - RFC
Introducing Ideas for Ecosystem Improvement
The RFC phase is where new ideas and changes are proposed to enhance the Viction ecosystem. Topics may range from ecosystem development and network upgrades to governance structures and grant programs.
Every community member is encouraged to submit ideas via the Viction Forum, utilizing the provided proposal template for clarity and structure. This open discussion platform ensures transparency and robust feedback.
Process:
- First, post your idea in the “Governance Discussion” category.
- Moderators review submissions for alignment with the Community Member Code of Conduct. Approved proposals are shared publicly, while feedback is provided for topics needing adjustments.
Duration: Open-ended
Passing Requirements: The initial feedback is critical in shaping and refining the proposal to align with the collective interests of the Viction community. While not mandatory, receiving strong community backing during this phase significantly enhances a proposal’s chances of advancing to the next stage. Proposals aligned with Viction's growth vision will be guided and developed into a comprehensive Viction Improvement Proposal (VIP).
Phase 2. Specification VIP Proposal
Refining and Structuring the Proposal
Once a proposal passes phase 1, it enters the specification phase, where it is refined based on the comments received and moved to the “VIP Proposal” Category.
This phase involves a deeper examination of the proposal’s technical, financial, and strategic aspects. Proposals are expected to evolve during this phase to address any concerns or suggestions raised by the community.
Process:
- Moderators will collaborate with the proposal author to develop a complete and well-structured VIP.
- The finalized VIP is shared in the “VIP Proposal” category for additional feedback and discussion.
- The community will have the opportunity to share comments and provide additional feedback to enhance the proposal further.
Duration: 7 days
Passing Requirements: Proposals with strong community consensus have a higher chance of progressing. Proposals receiving diverse feedback during Phase 2 can also move forward if they align with the foundation’s goals.
Phase 3. Voting and Consensus
Community Decision-Making
Once the proposal has been refined and gains sufficient community interest, it moves to a formal voting stage. Viction token holders participate in this process, using their governance tokens to signal their approval, rejection, or abstention. The voting period is typically defined, and the results are determined based on quorum requirements and majority consensus.
Process
- Proposals are published on gov.viction.xyz and linked to their original forum discussions.
- Token holders cast votes during the designated voting period.
Duration: 7 days
Passing Criteria:
- A proposal must achieve a specified quorum of votes to be considered valid.
- A majority of ‘Yes’ votes is required for a proposal to pass.
- Proposals that fail may be revisited or revised based on community input.
Phase 4. Implementation and Monitoring
Executing Approved Proposals
Once a proposal has been approved by the community, the designated actions are carried out. This may involve fund allocation, network upgrades, partnerships, or other initiatives outlined in the proposal. Execution is handled transparently, ensuring that all stakeholders understand how and when the proposal’s objectives will be achieved.
Monitoring and Updates: The teams responsible for implementing the proposal are required to provide regular updates to the community. These updates should outline the progress made, challenges encountered, and any adjustments to the original plan. This feedback loop fosters accountability, transparency, and continued community involvement in Viction’s governance.
Qualifying Proposals and Focus Areas
Proposals that are eligible for consideration within the Viction governance framework must align with the ecosystem’s overall goals of sustainability, growth, and community empowerment. These should reflect priorities outlined in VIP #1, including, but not limited to:
- Retrodrops: Ideas for rewarding early supporters and contributors.
- Community Growth: Programs designed to foster growth and engagement across key community segments, empowering diverse groups like Ambassadors, NFT Collectors, University Partners, Developers, etc.
- Reimbursement: Transparent plans for compensating contributors.
- Governance Topics: Governance process improvements.
Topics related to Grants, Events, Listings or Strategic Partnerships will be facilitated and posted by Viction Core DAO for the community's voting. This is to ensure seamless execution on the basis of respecting community's interests and advocacy.
Viction Core DAO: Supporting Community-Driven Growth
Viction Foundation also encourages the community to establish DAOs with a long-term vision and structured plans to manage and fund smaller contributors effectively.
The Viction Core DAO serves as an example of a DAO that supports Viction in executing VIPs and managing governance tasks effectively.
